At the beginning, the German ethnicity was kept away from labor market discrimination thanks to their significant skills. However, the political and historical developments of the world resulting into two world wars that divided the nations in two groups, with Germany being the most important element in the equation is believed to have slightly changed the situation.

Today, according to Census Bureau data, the Germans are the largest ethnic minority living within the U.S.A. borders ("Largest Ethnic/Racial Groups in the U.S.). "In fact, there is an estimated 47 million German-Americans according to the year 2000 census of the United States."(Mitchell) It is less likely for this minority to be the subject of discrimination, under the circumstances in which hard work, professionalism and reliability (characteristics which are generally demonstrated by Germans) have become significantly important.
As far as my personal belonging from a cultural point-of-view is concerned, I must say that I feel attached to both the German cultural background, but also to the American general mainstream. On the one hand there are the legacies of the family which I strongly believe in. On the other hand there are the approaches imposed by the mainstream. I think to be very well adapted and still manage to respect by German cultural inheritance.
