She has mentioned that she has a lot of friends at school, which signifies that she has created a relationship with her new world of school -- including friends, teachers, and the school activities and culture. She is very independent at school and at home. She is sometimes defiant with her mother and she has made some unkind remarks to her father, which he appears to ignore. She isn't afraid to say what is on her mind.

Renata 34 years old. Renata misses her life in Mexico as well as her family. She is missing the relationships with her mother and father and the rest of her extended family. She is happy to give her children a better life here in the States, but she says she thinks that they are missing out on other important familial relationships. She is not sure if this is worth it, but her husband is adamant about being in the U.S. She doesn't necessarily agree with this, but she doesn't talk about it much in front of him -- only to say that she misses her family.
Renata may feel a bit isolated, which is what Erikson warned may happen in the Young Adulthood stage if they are not fulfilled with satisfying relationships.

Miguel 37 years old. Miguel is fixated on work and making money. His long hours keep him separated from his family nearly every day of the week -- including the weekends. If a job comes up on the weekend, Miguel will never turn it down as the family needs the money. He appears to enjoy being the sole bread winner (even though Renata occasionally helps out elderly persons) and has kept a very old attitude about women's work and men's work. The whole family appears to accept it -- including Renata, who doesn't seem bothered by his lack of help around the house as she believes he is done working once he gets home. Miguel appears to be a bit self-absorbed as he thinks of himself as his family's lifeline. His relationship with Renata….....
