The Egyptian love songs/poetry as part of the coursework are revealing and interesting, regarding Egyptian life, society, and conceptions of love, romance, and sex. These love poems, such as other poems from other eras and countries, are sensual and imaginative. The Egyptian love poems/songs show variation and intensity, though there are some themes that bind or connect them. The paper will identify patterns and themes in some of the selected poems as part of general analysis of Egyptian love songs/poetry.

Many of the poems describe the body and describe feelings about the body. In this way, many of the poems are similar in their vivid descriptions or depictions of the body of the person desired, and the person who is desiring. Such descriptions and details add intensity to the poems and they additionally actively engage the imaginations of the readers. On some occassions, the descriptions are about a body part or feature -- skin, eyes, mouth, heart, or even the whole body. A recurring theme across the love songs are the yearning to connect with another person's body. The entire body represents not just the physical aspect of love and sex, but the metaphysical aspects as well -- what is beyond the physical, such as a person's heart, spirit, and non-physical expressions of love.

The person (or author) who expresses desires among these love songs does not simply yearn for the body of the love interest, but also more than the person's body -- that person's thoughts, feelings, energy, time, and all-encompassing love.
There is no doubt that the poems are overly sexual, sensual, and erotic, yet the love expressed does not end there; it typically begins there and expands into broader horizons.
