Throughout the South Island there are 18 local r-nanga (committees). An elected representative from each r-nanga makes up Te R-nanga o Ng-i Tahu, the governing body overseeing the tribe's activities.

The executive functions of Te R-nanga o Ng-i Tahu are carried out by the Office of Te R-nanga o Ng-i Tahu which manages administration and monitoring and delivers social and cultural programs; and the Ng-i Tahu Holdings Corporation Limited, which manages commercial activities for the tribe (Ngai-Tahu, 2006)

The abalone industry in New Zealand has reached an important and critical time. With rumors of black market selling of abalones by the tribes, who are not considered bound by the nation's laws, there is a danger of its becoming an endangered source of food. Another environmental impact is with the impact on wild salmon. The aquaculture industry argues that farmed salmon eases pressure on wild stocks. Theoretically, this may be true but in practice the argument lacks strength. Wild salmon stocks are subject to quotas and active management from the Department of Fisheries, and the global overfishing problem is not necessarily related to wild salmon stocks. There is no evidence presented that demand for

Aquaculture in the Midwest

Aquaculture in the Midwest Except for bucolic scenes of fishing on rivers meandering across the Midwest and Great Plains, most people don't equate fish with that region, at least not huge catches of commercial fish. However, as long ago as 1996, "traders in the 'futures pit' of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange were shouting and signaling bids and offers for spring wheat, white wheat, white shrimp and black tiger shrimp" (Weber 1996).

Two of the greatest threats to sustenance in India are drought and pestilence, both of which account for the widespread failure of many crops to reach harvest. The bollworm that ravages cotton crops in India accounted, in 2003, for the destruction of more than 50% of the nations' cotton harvest. The Norwegian authorities have long supported a holistic approach to maritime management, which is reflected in their interest in maintaining equal footing for a variety of maritime interests. These interests include fishing/aquaculture, maritime traffic, and

Vertical Farming-Opportunities and Challenges for Singapore There has been much talk surrounding the environmental issues of food production, with many now suggesting the city is the ideal place for growing food to cater for rapidly expanding urban populations. In Singapore, small-scale examples of this are emerging, such as Changi General Hospital and the Tanjong Pagar apartment complex. This dissertation will examine the Vertical Farming movement, and look at the opportunities and
