Different Types of Salt

Table salt is sodium chloride (NaCl) is the most common type of salt in most kitchens.

Table salt is not salt in its natural form. This is because table salt has iodine added.

This is done by the company because iodine deficiency can lead to poisoning and mental retardation.

Many countries have laws mandating the addition of iodine into salt.

Epsom salt is not sodium chloride. It is magnesium sulfide, or MgSO4.

This salt is often used in bath salts and is a common household item.

It is quite soluble in water and is often found in the ocean.

A third type of salt is sea salt. Chemically this is the same as table salt, but there are differences.

III. Describe the Research

C. Epsom salts are a wild card, since their reaction with water is unknown.

D. The pure water is expected to take the longest to reach the boiling point.
