School Improvement Plan

This study presents a final proposal for a school improvement plan with feedback provided from the principal, school improvement team members, as well as other stakeholders. The members of the school improvement team are the principal, guidance counselor, teachers, librarian, community members, parents, teacher's union representatives, and a resource teacher.

Creation of the School Improvement Plan

The creation of the school improvement plan has been enabled through collaborative efforts between all team members and stakeholders in the school by obtaining feedback from those team members and other stakeholders. The school improvement plan is inclusive of specific goals including: (1) effective instruction; (2) promotion of a positive school climate and culture; and (3) effective community and family empowerment.

Effective Instruction

The goal for effective instruction involves implementation of the Model Curriculum provided by NJDOE, which will serve to ensure adequate integration of the Core Common Standards with the NJCCCS. Both formative and summative assessment will be aligned to the Model Curriculum. Data will be collected and analyzed from the assessments to ensure that at least 955 of students participate in mandated formative assessments and that at least 70% of students demonstrate proficiency on each subject learning objective of state mandated formative assessments.
Data collection and analysis will also ensure that staff continues in modifying or improving instruction through use of research-based methods. As well instruction will be continuously modified and improved using research-based methods and that the number of non-proficient students in the subjects areas of LAL and Math will experience a 8.3% decrease as compared to 2012 NJASK scores through use of a rigorous curriculum and setting high expectations and implementation of classroom research-based best practices. In addition, continuous student interventions including tutoring and enrichment will serve to decrease non-proficient students in LAL and Math. In addition, all science, social studies and specials area teachers will continue to support the student learning objectives for LAL and Math as articulated in the Model Curriculum.

III. School Climate and Culture

A positive school climate will be promoted through proactive activities that result in creating a safe place for learning to occur. Students will be provided with a character education program and assemblies for other activities that promote cultural awareness and tolerance. Staff will participate in professional learning opportunities and opportunities to create and present professional development sessions by staff through collaborative efforts.
