We come to the gym partly to detoxify. Our customers do the same. They deserve an environment that is as pristine as possible: So do we. If everyone cleaned up after themselves the entire gym would be a more welcoming, healthier place. Cleaning up after ourselves will make the gym more inviting for potential new customers, for existing customers, and for the staff. If we don't clean up after ourselves as a rule, we risk losing our jobs and we risk compromising the reputation of the entire company.

I know that we were not hired as cleaning staff. We were hired for our special skills either as teachers, personal trainers, sales, customer support, or reception. I know that our in-house cleaning staff is competent and well-trained. If an area is messy they will soon arrive to clean it up. That is their job.

At the same time, we can all pitch in to make our gym the best it can be. We all come from different backgrounds but we find common ground as soon as we walk in here. Let's find common ground not only in our mutual passion for health but also in our mutual appreciation for a clean, safe, and welcoming work environment.
You don't have to scrub floors or wash toilets. All you have to do is clean up after yourself, something you learned to do when you were five years old. I'm not even asking you to clean up after other people. Wipe your sweat off the machine; throw your litter in the trash bin; don't leave your towel on the floor.

These are simple actions we can all take to work together. Cleaning up after ourselves doesn't have to be a chore. Look at your gym as you look at your body. Keep it clean. Take pride in it. Respect it and respect other people by cleaning up after yourself at work. What you do at home is your business but this is our shared environment, one we share with each other, with our customers, and with the owners of this business......
